Urgent question on violence in Northern Ireland: 18 July 2018
18 July 2018 (updated on 18 July 2018)
The Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary, Tony Lloyd, asked an urgent question in the House of Commons on recent violence in Northern Ireland.
Lloyd asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Karen Bradley, "to outline what the Government are doing to assist the Police Service of Northern Ireland and local community organisations to ensure that violence does not return to the streets of Northern Ireland".
Responding for the Government, the Northern Ireland Secretary said,
"the Government have invested significantly in the PSNI, with some £230 million of additional security funding in the 2010 Parliament and £160 million over the current spending review period. In addition, as a result of the 2015 Fresh Start agreement, we are providing £25 million to help tackle the scourge of paramilitary violence."
