MPs are to debate a number of Private Members’ Bills in the House of Commons on Friday 15 June 2018.

Private Members’ Bills
The following Bills are scheduled for debate today:
Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Bill
This Bill, presented by Steve Reed MP, would make provision about the oversight and management of use of force in relation to patients in mental health units and similar settings.

Freedom of Information (Extension) Bill
This Bill, presented by Andy Slaughter MP, would seek to amend the Freedom of Information Act 2000 so that the provisions of that Act apply to social housing providers, local safeguarding children boards, Electoral Registration Officers and Returning Officers.
If proceedings on the Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Bill end before 2.30pm the second, and possibly subsequent Bills, may be debated in the time remaining. After 2.30pm, only those Bills which are unopposed may make further progress.

About Private Members’ Bills
Private Members' Bills are Public Bills introduced by MPs and Lords who are not government ministers.
As with other Public Bills, their purpose is to change the law as it applies to the general population.
A minority of Private Members' Bills become law but, by creating publicity around an issue, they may affect legislation indirectly.
