Lord Speaker’s lectures: Edward Heath: a new style of prime minister?

As part of the Lord Speaker’s lecture series, Lord Lexden, deputy speaker and deputy chairman of committees in the House of Lords, addresses the life and work of Sir Edward Heath.
Lord Lexden started his career in academia, both as researcher and teacher at Cambridge, Edinburgh and Belfast Universities.
He joined the Conservative Research Department in 1977, becoming Deputy Director in 1983. He was General Secretary of the Independent Schools Council 1997-2004, and Consultant and editor-in-chief of the Conservative Research Department 2004-10. He is the author of a number of publications on 19th and 20th century political history.
He took his seat in the House of Lords in 2011 and is deputy speaker and chairman of committees.
