Lords debates Police and Crime Commissioners

Members of the Lords, including a former head of the Home Civil Service and a former deputy chairman of the Police Complaints Commission, debated the role and responsibilities of Police and Crime Commissioners, in the House of Lords on Thursday 28 June.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Lord Armstrong of Ilminster (Crossbench), former head of the Civil Service.

  • Lord Bach (Labour), police and crime commissioner for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
  • Baroness Meacher (Crossbench), former deputy chairman of the Police Complaints Commission
  • Lord Paddick (Liberal Democrat), former deputy assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service
  • Lord Wasserman (Conservative), former chief of staff to the New York City Police Commissioner

Baroness Williams of Trafford (Conservative), minister of state in the Home Office, responded on behalf of the government.
