Lords private members' bills
2 July 2018
The House of Lords debated two private members' bills on Friday 29 June, covering assaults on emergency workers and leave and pay for bereaved parents.
A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills.

- make certain offences aggravated when perpetrated against such workers in the exercise of their duty
- require persons suspected of certain assaults against such workers which may pose a health risk to provide intimate samples and to make it an offence, without reasonable excuse, to refuse to provide such samples
Committee stage, the first chance for line-by-line scrutiny, is yet to be scheduled.
