The Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, made a statement in the House of Commons on Wednesday 20 June, on the publication of the report from the Gosport Independent Panel.

The Health Secretary apologised on behalf of the Government and the NHS for the events at Gosport Memorial Hospital between 1987 and 2001. He also outlined next steps in terms of further investigations and support for affected families.

Shadow Secretary of State for Health, Jonathan Ashworth, responded on behalf of the Opposition, welcoming the apology and questioning how the events could have been allowed to continue for so long with no prosecutions.
