Statement: Grenfell update
22 March 2018 (updated on 22 March 2018)
Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, made a statement today updating the House of Commons on Grenfell Tower.
Sajid Javid opened the statement updating the House on Grenfell Tower by saying progress has not been made as quickly as it should have been. He went on to say that there are still 82 households in emergency accommodation, including 15 in serviced apartments, with 25 families and 39 children among them. He told the House this was totally unacceptable.
The statement was responded to by Tony Lloyd, who stated that when the Secretary of State promised that everyone would be rehoused within the year prior to the anniversary of the tragedy he gave some hope to the survivors of Grenfell Tower, but that he has abysmally failed in that promise.
