Liz Twist, MP for Blaydon and member of the Petitions Committee, asked an Urgent Question in the House of Commons on why the contract for the new UK passports was given to a French-owned company.

The Minister for Immigration, Caroline Nokes, responded on behalf of the Government and explained that the Passport Office is currently procuring services to design, manufacture and personalise UK passports from summer 2019, when the current contract ends. Once a contract has been formally awarded, an announcement will be made.
