Urgent Question on Customs arrangements at UK ports after Brexit

Hilary Benn, Chair of the Committee on Exiting the European Union, asked an Urgent Question on Customs arrangements at UK ports after Brexit, in the House of Commons.
The question was responded to by the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mel Stride, who stated that the Government have set out that in leaving the EU customs union, they will be guided by what delivers the greatest economic advantage to the United Kingdom and by three strategic objectives: continued UK-EU trade that is as frictionless as possible; avoiding a hard border on the island of Ireland; and establishing an independent international trade policy.
Hilary Benn pressed the Minister on whether she was confident that World Trade Organisation rules allow for not applying certain customs checks at some ports but not others.
