Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry asked an Urgent Question on violence at the Gaza border, in the House of Commons on Tuesday 16 May.

Thornberry urged Alistair Burt, Minister of State for the Middle East, to join her "urging the Israeli forces serving on the Gaza border to show some long-overdue responsibility to their fellow human beings and stop this vicious slaughter".

The Minister told the House, "we must look forward and work urgently towards a resolution of the long-standing issues between Israel and the Palestinian people. Now more than ever, we need a political process that delivers a two-state solution".
