Lords private members' bills

The House of Lords debated two private members' bills on Friday 23 November, covering consent for organ donation and the fitness for human habitation of rented accommodation.
A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills.
Organ Donation (Deemed Consent) Bill (second reading):

- What is second reading?
A bill to make amendments of the Human Tissue Act 2004 concerning consent to activities for the purpose of transplantation.

- What is second reading?
A bill to amend the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 to require that residential rented accommodation is provided and maintained in a state of fitness for human habitation; to amend the Building Act 1984 to make provision about the liability for works on residential accommodation that do not comply with Building Regulations.
