UK concerned about "serious escalation" of Ukraine-Russia conflict
27 November 2018
Former Culture Secretary John Whittingdale asked the Government about relations between Russia and Ukraine, following recent clashes between Russian and Ukrainian boats.
Following recent reports of rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine, Minister of State within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Alistair Burt, responded to the urgent question by condemning Russia's aggression against Ukrainian vessels. He went on to "urgently" call for the release of Ukrainian sailors held by Russia.
John Whittingdale followed up his question by asking the Government whether they agreed that recent Russian actions constituted a serious escalation of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In his response, Alistair Burt agreed with this assessment.
