Government questioned on the amendability of 'meaningful vote' motions

Mr Dominic Grieve, MP for Beaconsfield, asked an urgent question to the Department for Exiting the European Union (DEXEU) on the potential amendability of motions to the 'meaningful vote'.
Dominic Raab responded to the question saying "at the point where the approval of the House is sought, the decision as to whether this motion is amendable or not is a matter for you Mr Speaker, not the Government."
This followed correspondence between the Procedure Committee and the Government. On October 10, the Government published a memorandum on parliamentary approval of any EU/UK withdrawal agreement.

The Committee invited written submissions on the issues the 'meaningful vote' raises for the House's usual procedures for decisions on amendable motions. Deadline for submissions, Tuesday 23 October.
