Shadow Health Secretary presses on NHS clinical waste incineration

Jonathan Ashworth, Shadow Secretary of State for Health, asked the Minister of State for Health, to update the House of Commons on clinical waste incineration across the NHS.
The Shadow Health Secretary had also asked an urgent question last week on the accumulation of human body parts and dangerous waste from NHS patients.
Minister of State for Health, Stephen Barclay, today confirmed that there is sufficient incinerator capacity to cope with clinical waste and that Mitie has secured 1000 tonnes of capacity. The contract with Mitie was put into place on 5 October. He stated 'there is no risk to public safety by the action taken by these Trusts'.
Jonathan Ashworth asked the Minister to clarify why the House was not told that concerns had been raised with him in August and to respond to allegations that waste is still not being dealt with appropriately.
