Statement on the death of Jamal Khashoggi

Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, made a statement in the House of Commons on the death of Jamal Khashoggi.
Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and prominent critic of the Saudi Government, was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Foreign Secretary began by expressing the condolences on behalf of the Commons.
"The Government condemn Mr Khashoggi's killing in the strongest possible terms. Today the thoughts and prayers of the whole House are with his fiancée, his family and his friends".
He also spoke on the Government's ongoing correspondence with the Saudi and Turkish Governments as the incident is investigated.
The statement was responded to by the Shadow Foreign Secretary, Emily Thornberry. She echoed the condolences and asked the Foreign Secretary about potential "consequences for Britain's relationship with Riyadh".
