Shadow Education Secretary Angela Rayner has asked an urgent question on the Government's plans to sell the Student Loan Book.

Former Universities Minister Jo Johnson announced the start of the process of selling student debt back in February 2017. When making the announcement, the Government said that this is "part of a drive to sell assets in a way that secures value for money for taxpayers".

The Shadow Education Secretary accused the Government of "selling off an asset to flatter this Government's terrible position on national debt". In response, Universities Minister Sam Gyimah set out the rationale for the sale of the Student Loan Book.
