George Eustice, Minister of State for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, updated MPs on scallop fishing in the Bay of Seine on Thursday 13 September 2018.

This statement followed a series of incidents between British and French scallop fishermen in the Channel. These incidents have come to be called "scallop wars" in the media.

The Minister told MPs, "any violence taking place is unacceptable and the safety of our fishing fleet is paramount".

Responding for the Opposition, Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Sue Hayman told the House of Commons that "our fishermen deserve better, and the Government need to step up."
