Lords debates careers education and advice

Members of the Lords, including a former Secretary of State for Education and Skills and the director of educational charity Future Academies, debated the case for high-quality careers education and advice to be available to all students, in the House of Lords on Thursday 6 September.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Lord Aberdare (Crossbench), former director of Waltz Programmes Ltd, a social enterprise to prepare disadvantaged young people for work.

- Baroness Morris of Yardley (Labour), former Secretary of State for Education and Skills
- Lord Nash (Conservative), director of educational charity Future Academies
- Lord Storey (Liberal Democrat), former chair of Burton Manor Adult Education College
Baroness Bull (Crossbench), vice president for cultural development at the British Science Association, made her maiden speech.
Viscount Younger of Leckie (Conservative), Lords spokesperson for higher education in the Department for Education, responded on behalf of the government.
