Crisis in Libya raised in urgent question

In an urgent question on 8 April 2019, Stephen Gethins MP, SNP Foreign Affairs and Europe spokesperson, asked the Government to make a statement about the situation in Libya.
More than 2,800 people have been displaced in recent months according to UN reports, fleeing fighting near Libya's capital, Tripoli.

Mark Field, Minister of State said,
"The UK has warned that any Libyan National Army advance on Tripoli would be catastrophic for [the political and diplomatic process] and risks a descent into more widespread violence. This scenario, I am afraid to tell the House, appears to be developing."
Shadow SNP spokesperson, Stephen Gethins asked,
"...what bilateral support the UK Government is providing to support the UN peace process, good governance in Libya and internal and external security measures in that country?"
G7 Foreign Minister statement
G7 Foreign Ministers released a joint statement on the situation in the west of Libya on Friday 5 April expressing their deepest concerns about military operations and urging all involved parties to immediately halt all military activity and movements toward Tripoli.
