Lords debates antimicrobial resistance action plan

On Thursday 2 May, members of the House of Lords debated the government's report 'Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance 2019-2024: the Government's five year action plan to prevent antimicrobial resistance'.

Members taking part included the chair of the advisory board of Assistive Healthcare Technology Association and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Antibiotics.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Lord Lansley (Conservative), former Secretary of State for Health.

  • Baroness Masham of Ilton (Crossbench), treasurer of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Antibiotics
  • Baroness Redfern (Conservative), chair of the North Lincolnshire Council Health and Wellbeing Board
  • Baroness Thornton (Labour), chair of the advisory board of Assistive Healthcare Technology Association
  • Baroness Walmsley (Liberal Democrat), former member of the Lords Science and Technology Sub-Committee on Fighting Infection

Baroness Blackwood of North Oxford (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary in the Department of Health and Social Care, responded on behalf of the government.
