Big Ben will strike on New Year's Eve to mark the start of 2020.

Prior to the ringing on New Year's Eve itself, technical tests of the mechanism will take place from 29 through to 31 December. These will be undertaken by Parliament's Clock Mechanics, with sound engineers from external organisations including the BBC testing the bell ahead of international broadcast at midnight on 31 December 2019.

On Sunday 29 December from 2-4 pm, technical tests will take place. During this time, the bell will be struck intermittently to test the mechanism.

On Monday 30 December at 12 pm and 11 pm there will be 12 strikes, as well as at midnight where Big Ben will be struck 12 times for a full dress rehearsal.

On Tuesday 31 December, Big Ben will be struck at 12pm, 4pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm and finally, midnight on New Year's Eve 2019.
