Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt updated the House of Commons on the UK's fight against Daesh in Iraq and Syria.

Fighters from the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have recently launched an assault to oust Daesh from Syria. Speaking of territorial gains made from Daesh, US President Donald Trump said,  "It should be formally announced sometime probably next week that we will have 100% of the caliphate."

Addressing MPs, Mr Hunt said

"Daesh once imposed its rule of terror on an area roughly the size of the United Kingdom, but has now been driven back to an isolated enclave in eastern Syria. However, the House should not mistake territorial defeat for final defeat."

Speaking for the Opposition, Emily Thornberry thanked the troops who had put their lives on the line in the campaign against Daesh. She went on to attack the Government for failing to meet it's promise to make quarterly statements when Parliament voted to intervene in Syria, as well as to request updates on the progress of the campaign and civilian casualties.
