Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson, Sir Edward Davey, asked an urgent question on the use of the power to deprive a person of citizenship status.

The urgent question follows the recent news that the Home Office revoked the UK citizenship from a 19 year old after she travelled to Syria to join Daesh.

Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, responded to the question and stated:

"To keep this country safe, we must be prepared to make tough decisions. There must be consequences for those who back terror."

Sir Edward replied to the Home Secretary asking to know what criteria is being used to make such judgements to remove citizenship to be “conducive to the public good”.

Transcripts of proceedings in the House of Commons Chamber are available in Hansard online three hours after they happen.
