Lords debates medicinal safety

On Thursday 28 February, members of the House of Lords debated the steps being taken to improve the safety of medicine and medical devices.
Members taking part included the president of the Health Care Supplies Association and the chair of the Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Lord O'Shaughnessy (Conservative), former parliamentary under-secretary in the Department of Health.

- Lord Hunt of Kings Heath (Labour), president of the Health Care Supplies Association
- Baroness Jolly (Liberal Democrat), former lay member of the Commission for Health Improvement
- Baroness Masham of Ilton (Crossbench), chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Prescribed Drug Dependence
Lord Carrington (Crossbench) made his maiden speech.
Baroness Blackwood of North Oxford (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary in the Department of Health and Social Care, responded on behalf of the government.
