MPs debated the Police Grant and Local Government Finance Reports in the House of Commons on Tuesday 5 February 2019.

Police Grant

MPs debated a motion to approve the Police Grant Report (England and Wales) 2019/20. This is how Parliament approves the central police funding allocation for each force every financial year. The debate was opened by the Home Secretary, Sajid Javid. The vote on the Police Grant Report (England and Wales) 2019/20 was subject to double majority voting. The House of Commons voted 310 to 254 to approve the report, with MPs representing constituencies in England and Wales voting 289 to 242.

Local Government Finance Reports

Each year, levels of central government grant, and the distribution of business rate revenue, for local authorities in England are decided via the annual Local Government Finance Settlement. The debate was opened by Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, James Brokenshire.

"That the Report on Referendums Relating to Council Tax Increases (Alternative Notional Amounts) (England) 2019-20 (HC 1917), which was laid before this House on 29 January, be approved."

"That the That the Report on Referendums Relating to Council Tax Increases (Principles) (England) 2019–20 (HC 1918), which was laid before this House on 29 January, be approved."

The vote on the Local Government Finance Report (England) 2019-20 was subject to double majority voting. The House of Commons voted 298 to 240 to approve it, with MPs representing constituencies in England voting 270 to 208. The report has therefore been approved.
