Urgent question on the future of British Steel

Anna Turley, MP for Redcar, asked the Government to make a statement on British Steel as the search for a buyer for the firm continues.
British Steel, the second-largest steel company in the UK, went into insolvency earlier this year after a bail-out agreement could not be reached. The Business Secretary, Greg Clark, said at the time that it was a huge blow, but that the Government would do everything it could to secure the company's future.

Updating the House today, Clark said;
“I've been active, as Members know, in visiting prospective buyers in many parts of the world, to make it clear that the UK Government will, within its legal powers, work with a good, long-term owner of these important assets to see how we can help them realise their vision for the company”
Responding to the statement, Turley said
“I hope that whoever will be at the Despatch Box in the weeks ahead will recognise that they have the jobs and the livelihoods of thousands of men and women in their hands, as well as the guardianship of a vital, modern, innovative and potentially world-leading British industry.”
