Lords discusses protection of the NHS

On Thursday 4 July, members of the House of Lords debated the case for protecting the National Health Service in future trade deals entered into by the UK.
Members taking part included a shadow spokesperson for health and a former minister of state in the Department for International Trade.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Lord Brooke of Alverthorpe (Labour), patron of the Sparrow Foundation.

- Baroness Fairhead (Conservative), former minister of state in the Department for International Trade
- Lord Purvis of Tweed (Liberal Democrat), Liberal Democrat spokesperson for international trade
- Baroness Thornton (Labour), shadow spokesperson for health
Earl of Courtown (Conservative), deputy chief whip, responded on behalf of the government.
