Urgent question on the resignation of the UK Ambassador to US

Labour MP Pat McFadden asked an urgent question on the resignation of the UK Ambassador to the United States following the leaking of emails critical of President Trump's administration.
On Wednesday 10 July, UK Ambassador to the United States Sir Kim Darroch announced his resignation. At Prime Minister's questions, Theresa May said Sir Kim's departure was "a matter of deep regret".
Responding to the urgent question, Sir Alan Duncan stated that:
"We will continue to support civil servants in carrying out their duty."
He went on to claim that so many of the codes of conduct which govern politicians' behaviour are in "freefall", and that it is leading to an...
"unacceptable attacks on judges, parliament and broadcasters. And attacks of that sort are a fundamental attack on all the freedoms of the democracy in which we operate."
Following up on his urgent questions, Pat McFadden critized the unwillingness of some MPs to defend Sir Kim, and claimed Sir Kim
"carried out his duties in the finest traditions of the civil service."
