Urgent question on immigration detention victims

Following reports the Home Office has shown a lack of transparency around the number of victims of human trafficking and modern slavery, MPs are questioning the Government in the House of Commons Chamber.

Immigration Minister Caroline Noakes told MPs,

"The Home Secretary made clear his committment to going further and faster with reforms to immigration detention, including by reducing the number of people we detain, increasing the number of voluntary returns, and by working with partners on alternatives to detention. We have made real progress in delivering these commitments."

The question was responded to by Shadow Home Secretary Dianne Abbot, who followed up by asking the Government:

"Is the Government not in fact in breach of its own stated policy on modern slavery? [...] How many victims of modern slavery have been held in detention in previous years and how many are currently held?"
