National Minimum Wage naming scheme suspension questioned

On 4 June 2019, Stephanie Peacock asked ministers to make a statement on the suspension of the National Minimum Wage naming scheme.
Since 2013 it has been government policy to name employers who break national minimum wage law, as well as ensuring back payments to those affected, and fining companies who have failed to pay their workers appropriately.

Using an urgent question Stephanie Peacock asked why the Government was ending the policy.
Making a statement in response, minister Kelly Tolhurst said;
"The Government is reviewing the naming scheme to ensure that it continues to effectively support minimum wage compliance. This is in response to a recommendation The Director of Labour Market Enforcement, David Metcalf, made last year."
Peacock responded to the statement saying;
"The Director made no such recommendation to suspend the scheme, simply calling for an evaluation and specific improvements. The Government accepted those recommendations so why has it not simply implemented them and continued with the scheme in the meantime?"
