Lords discuss antisemitism worldwide

On Thursday 20 June members of the House of Lords debated the incidence of antisemitism worldwide.

Members taking part included a vice president of the Jewish Leadership Council and a vice president of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.

This was a balloted debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Baroness Berridge (Conservative), commissioner of the Conservative Party Human Rights Commission.

Members taking part included:

  • Lord Palmer of Childs Hill (Liberal Democrat), vice president of the Jewish Leadership Council
  • Lord Parekh (Labour), trustee of the Anne Frank Educational Trust
  • Lord Pickles (Conservative), vice president of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust
  • Lord Singh of Wimbledon (Crossbench), vice chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief

Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon (Conservative), minister of state in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, responded of behalf of the government.
