Lords debates domestic violence and abuse

On Thursday 6 June, members of the House of Lords debated the government's plans to support victims of domestic violence and abuse.

Members taking part included a member of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative and the Victims' Commissioner for England and Wales.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Baroness Newlove (Conservative), Victims' Commissioner for England and Wales.  

Members taking part included:

  • Baroness Burt of Solihull (Liberal Democrat), member of the Joint Committee on the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill
  • Baroness Gale (Labour), shadow spokesperson for Equalities and Women's issues
  • Baroness Helic (Conservative), member of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative
  • Baroness Prashar (Crossbench), former member of the Joint Committee on Human Rights

Baroness Williams of Trafford (Conservative), minister of state in the Home Office, responded on behalf of the government.
