Lords marks International Women's Day

On Thursday 7 March, members of the House of Lords debated International Women's Day and the UK's role in advancing gender equality globally.
Members taking part included the chair of the Gender Action for Peace & Security (Gaps) Advisory Board and the former chair of the Women's National Commission.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Baroness Williams of Trafford (Conservative), minister for equalities in the Department for International Development.

Baroness Vere of Norbiton (Conservative), government whip and former executive director of the Girls' Schools Association, responded on behalf of the government.
