Urgent question on Cyclone Idai disaster

Conservative MP, Andrew Mitchell MP asked the Government to make a statement on the Cyclone Idai disaster southern Africa.
Last week, Cyclone Idai caused widespread flooding and devastation in in southern Africa affecting thousands of people in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
Minister of State for International Development, Harriet Baldwin, replied to the urgent question on behalf of the Government and stated:
"We have so far committed six million pounds to respond to immediate needs.I'm pleased to inform the House that more tents and thousands of shelter kits have now landed in Mozambique. We have teams on the ground in each of the three countries affected, including humanitarian and relief experts. We're working with other international partners including the UN and the Red Cross to address immediate needs across the three countries."
Andrew Mitchell replied to the Minister and said:
"Thousands of families Mr Speaker remain stranded. A huge global response is now required and the UK has a key leadership role to discharge in that."
