Summary of the Bill

The Palace of Westminster urgently needs major renovations to preserve its landmark buildings and remain a fit-for-purpose home for the UK Parliament. This Bill establishes the statutory bodies responsible for this work and also the governance structure within which these bodies will operate.

MPs considered the report stage and third reading of the Parliamentary Buildings (Restoration and Renewal) Bill on 19 June 2019.

The Commons divided twice at Committee Stage, but neither amendment was approved. The Bill passed its third reading without division and will now pass to the House of Lords for further scrutiny.

Second reading

The second reading of the Bill was approved without division on 21 May 2019.
