Lords debates equal opportunities for young people

On Thursday 16 May, members of the House of Lords debated the need to deliver equality of opportunity and beneficial quality of life for young people.
Members taking part included the director of the Big Issue Group and the president of the National Children's Bureau.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Baroness Grender (Liberal Democrat), board member of the Social Market Foundation.

- Lord Bassam of Brighton (Labour), co-opted member of the Child Poverty Action Group
- Lord Bird (Crossbench), director of the Big Issue Group
- Baroness Fall (Conservative), former special advisor to the deputy director-general of the Confederation of British Industry
- Baroness Tyler of Enfield (Liberal Democrat), president of the National Children's Bureau.
Lord Agnew of Oulton (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary in the Department for Education, responded on behalf of the government.
