This week in the Commons, MPs considered the second reading of the Restoration and Renewal Bill, and debated the Yemen peace process, British Steel and more. 

Legislation: Government Bills

Non-Domestic Rating (Preparation For Digital Services) Bill

The Non-Domestic Rating (Preparation For Digital Services) Bill passed its remaining stages in the Commons on Monday 20 May 2019. It now passes to the House of Lords for further scrutiny.

The Bill enables the Commissioners for HMRC to incur expenditure in connection with providing digital services. These services will facilitate the administration or payment of non-domestic rates in England. Non-domestic rates, commonly called business rates, are collected by local authorities.

Parliamentary Buildings (Restoration and Renewal) Bill

The Palace of Westminster urgently needs major renovations to preserve its landmark buildings and remain a fit-for-purpose home for the UK Parliament. This Bill establishes the statutory bodies responsible for this work and also the governance structure within which these bodies will operate.
