Legislation: Government Bills

National Insurance Contributions (Termination Awards and Sporting Testimonials) Bill

The National Insurance Contributions (Termination Awards and Sporting Testimonials) Bill had its second reading on 30 April 2019.

This Bill makes amendments to the NI treatment of termination awards and income from sporting testimonials. Termination awards are payments connected to the termination of a person's employment. Sporting testimonials are matches and other events sometimes held to mark the end of a sportsperson's career, the proceeds are paid to the sportsperson.

The Bill aligns how these income sources are charged NI contributions with the way they're subject to income tax.
