The Queen's Speech sets out the government's agenda. Members debated the content over five days, looking at different subject areas, from Tuesday 15 October to Tuesday 22 October.

Monday 14 October - formal thanks in reply to the Queen's Speech

When the Queen leaves, a new parliamentary session starts and the House of Lords gets back to work to debate content of the speech. Members agree an ‘Address in Reply to Her Majesty's Gracious Speech'.

Tuesday 15 October

The House of Lords debated exiting the EU, trade, foreign affairs and defence.

Wednesday 16 October

The House of Lords continued its debate on exiting the EU, trade, foreign affairs and defence.

Thursday 17 October

Members of the Lords debated economic affairs, business, agriculture, environment, energy and transport.

Monday 21 October

Members of the Lords debated home affairs, justice, local government, devolved affairs and constitutional affairs.

Tuesday 22 October

Members debated health, social care, education, culture, welfare and pensions.
