Lords private members' bills

The House of Lords debated three private members' bills on Friday 18 January, covering registration of stillborn deaths, protection of persons at risk from stalking and the operation of private parking facilities.
A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills.

- What is second reading?
A bill to allow opposite-sex couples to enter civil partnerships, for the registration of the names of the mother of each party to a marriage or civil partnership, to make provision about the registration of stillborn deaths and to give coroners the power to investigate stillborn deaths.
