MPs debated all stages of the European Union (Withdrawal) (No.6) Bill in the House of Commons on Wednesday 4 September 2019. The Bill will now be considered in the House of Lords.

Following an emergency debate motion on the day before, the House of Commons debated all stages of the Bill on 4 September 2019 in an attempt to pass the Bill before prorogation (suspension) of Parliament.

Royal Assent

The European Union (Withdrawal) (No.6) Bill received Royal Assent on 9 September 2019, becoming an Act of Parliament (law).

Commons stages

The Bill passed all of its Commons stages on Wednesday 4 September, it was amended at Committee stage and will now be debated in the House of Lords.

Summary of the Bill

The Bill would require that unless the House of Commons approves a deal with the EU or the House of Commons agrees a no-deal Brexit, the Government must by 19 October 2019 seek an extension to the Article 50 period until 31 January 2020.
