Government statement on girls' education

The Secretary of State told MPs,

"The UK is a world leader on girls' education, and I'm immensely proud to steer head the British Government's Girls' Education campaign. That campaign 'Leave no girl behind' was launched by our Prime Minister in 2018 when he was the Foreign Secretary. The campaign leads by example, it gets girls learning, builds international political commitment and boosts global investments that all girls have access to 12 years of quality education by 2030." 

Responding on behalf of the Opposition, Shadow Minister Dan Carden, asked,

"So will the Secretary of State listen to the sector, to the unions and to teacher and campaign groups both in the UK and in the global south who say that education is a universal right guaranteed by the State and not a market to make profits from, and will he shift his department's focus on education towards a human rights based approach so that all girls get the education they're entitled to?"
