Coming up in the Commons: 7-11 December 2020

Wondering what's happening this week in the House of Commons? From bills to oral questions, our business highlights will keep you on top of everything coming up in the Chamber.

All business is subject to change.

Monday

The House will sit from 2.30pm. Proceedings will start with questions to Defence Ministers.

There will be two urgent questions:

  • Rachel Reeves MP - To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office if he will make a statement on the progress of the negotiations on the UK’s future relationship with the EU and preparations for the end of the transition period. 
  • Alyn Smith MP - To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs if he will make a statement on the sentencing of the Hong Kong pro-democracy activists Joshua Wong, Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam. 

The main business for the day will be the consideration of Lord's amendments for the United Kingdom Internal Market Bill.

Tuesday

Proceedings will begin at 11.30am with questions to the Secretary of State for Justice.

There will be the following urgent question:

  • Jonathan Ashworth MP - To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care if he will make a statement on the Covid-19 vaccine roll out.

This will be followed by the following Ministerial statement:

  • Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Nigel Huddleston MP - Statement on gambling and lotteries.

The main business for the day will begin with the motion to approve ways and means resolutions related to the Taxation (Post-Transition Period) Bill.

Wednesday

MPs will meet at 11.30am, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Scotland.

This will be followed by Prime Minister's Questions.

There will be the following two Ministerial statements:

  • Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster - Withdrawal Agreement Update 
  • Defence Secretary - Armed Forces Deployment to UN Mission in Mali 

The main business will begin with the second reading and committees stages of the Taxation (Post-Transition Period) Bill.

Thursday

The House will sit from 9.30am on Thursday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. 

This will be followed by questions to the Attorney General.

There will be the following urgent question:

  • Rachel Reeves - To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office if he will make a statement on the progress of the negotiations on the UK’s future relationship with the EU and preparations for the end of the transition period. 

This will be followed by the Ministerial statement:

  • Minister for Patient Safety, Suicide Prevention and Mental Health (Nadine Dorries) - Publication of the findings of the Ockenden review

This will be followed by Business Questions to the Leader of the House.

The main business of the day will be a general debate on the future of the high street.

Friday

The House will not sit on Friday.
