Coming up in the Commons: 9-13 November

We’ve put together a list of highlights to keep you on top of the legislation, debates and questions coming up this week that you need to know about.

Monday

On Monday proceedings will begin at 2.30pm.

There will be questions to the Home Secretary. For a complete list of questions see the Order of Business on the day or Question Book in advance.

There will be one urgent question and two statements:

  • Urgent question from Caroline Nokes MP on what steps HM Government has taken to secure the return of Jonathan Taylor to the UK in order to complete inquiries into corruption by SBM Offshore. 
  • Statement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the future of financial services.
  • Statement from Secretary of State for Work and Pensions on supporting disadvantaged families this winter and beyond.

The main business will be the second reading of the Financial Services Bill.

Tuesday

Tuesday’s highlights include questions to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (for a complete list of questions see the Order of Business on the day or the Question Book in advance).

There will be one urgent question and one statement:

  • Urgent question from John Healey on the deployment of the Armed Forces to assist civilian authorities in dealing with the continuing Covid pandemic. 
  • Statement from the Health Secretary giving an update on Covid-19.

MPs will then consider Lords amendments to the Parliamentary Constituencies Bill, followed by motions for approval.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, the House will observe a minute's silence at 11am to honour Remembrance Day.

Following this will be questions to the Secretary of State for Scotland and Prime Minister's Questions (for a complete list of questions see the Order of Business on the day or the Question Book in advance).

There will be one urgent question:

  • Urgent question from Thangam Debbonaire on plans to prevent homelessness and protect rough sleepers during the second national lockdown.

The main business will be a general debate on Remembrance, UK Armed Forces and Society, as well as a general debate on Covid-19.

Thursday

On Thursday there will be questions to the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office (for a complete list of questions see the Order of Business on the day or the Question Book in advance), as well as business questions to the Leader of the House.

There will be one urgent question and one statement.

  • Urgent question from Layla Moran on the disqualification of pro-democracy lawmakers in Hong Kong. 
  • Statement from Oliver Dowden on Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

There will then be two debates determined by the Backbench Business Committee on:

  • the effect of the covid-19 pandemic on refugee communities
  • achieving the ambition for a smoke free England by 2030, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and public health reorganisation.

Friday

The House will not be sitting this Friday.
