Lords debates net zero emissions targets

The House of Lords debated the case for integrating policy-making in national and local government to achieve net zero carbon emissions in the United Kingdom, on Wednesday 21 April.

Speakers included a member of the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit advisory board and the president of Environmental Protection UK.

This was a general debate. During debates, members put their experience to good use to discuss current issues and draw the government's attention to concerns.

The debate took place in Grand Committee, away from the main chamber.

Lord Teverson (Liberal Democrat), member of the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit advisory board, put forward the debate.

Members who took part include:

  • Baroness Bennett of Manor Castle (Green), vice-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Agro-Ecology for Sustainable Food and Farming

  • Lord Shipley (Liberal Democrats), vice-president of the National Energy Action Advisory Board
  • Lord Whitty (Labour), president of Environmental Protection UK.

Lord Callanan (Conservative), Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, responded on behalf of the government.
