Monday 13 December
Questions
Members questioned the government for 40 minutes on:
- Drax wood pellets: sustainability and impact on biodiversity
- Increasing training places for new doctors in medical schools
- COVID-19: investigating companies on GOV.UK that offer travel PCR and lateral flow tests.
- Supporting marginalised communities in Nepal.
Legislation
The House began ‘tidy up’ of the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill at third reading.
Members continuekd detailed examination of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill at committee stage.
In Grand Committee, the Lords began committee stage of the Northern Ireland (Ministers, Elections and Petitions of Concern) Bill.
Motion to annul
Motions to annul can be used by members to object to a statutory instrument. This motion to annul was put forward by Lord Storey in relation to Universal Credit and disabled young people.
Tuesday 14 December
Questions
Members questioned the government for 40 minutes on:
- Lowering tariffs on tuna imported from the Maldives
- COVID-19 vaccine donations
- Missed breast screening appointments during the COVID-19 pandemic
- COVID-19: entertainment and arts venues.
Regulations
Members considered regulations which would require health and social care workers to prove they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Two motions against the legislation were debated in the chamber:
- A ‘motion to decline to approve’ from Baroness Noakes (Conservative)
- A ‘motion to regret’ from Baroness Thornton (Labour).

In Grand Committee, away from the chamber, members considered regulations on:
- Driving licences
- Civil jurisdiction and judgments
- Wine
- Consumer Scotland Act 2020
- Civil Partnerships (Scotland).
Legislation
Members considered House of Commons amendments to the Armed Forces Bill.
Members also started further examination (report stage) of the Education (Environment and Sustainable Citizenship) Bill, the Advanced Research and Invention Agency Bill and the Charities Bill.
Wednesday 15 December
Regulations
Questions
Members questioned the government for 40 minutes on:
- Implementing Build UK’s Roadmap to Zero Retentions
- Young people in alternative education
- plans to support the International Day of Democracy
- government plans to consider an emergency application for the use of neonicotinoids on sugar beet.
Legislation
The House continued to examine the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill at committee stage.
Statement
Members questioned a government statement on the approval of funds for full and final settlements for postmasters with overturned criminal convictions.
Thursday 16 December
Questions
Members will question the government for 40 minutes on:
- Including first aid training and home nursing in the school curriculum
- Environmental Land Management schemes
- Accommodation for children and young people in care
- Uyghurs in Xinjiang.
Three oral questions to the Lord Frost (Minister of State at the Cabinet Office), will follow on:
- the agenda for the next meeting of the EU–UK Partnership Council
- retained EU law
- extending easements to border control checks on goods from the EU.
Debates
Members will debate:
- government plans to announce a new international development strategy for the UK
- rail plans for the Northern Powerhouse area
- Bosnia and Herzegovina: upholding the Dayton Agreement.
