Lords debates UK-Kenya future trading relationship

The House of Lords debated the Economic Partnership Agreement between the UK and the Republic of Kenya, on Tuesday 2 March.
Speakers included former heads of the diplomatic service, ambassadors and a former Attorney General.
This was a general debate. During debates, members use their experience to discuss current issues and draw the government's attention to concerns.
The debate followed the International Agreements Committee report, drawing the agreement with Kenya to the special attention of the House.
Lord Goldsmith (Labour), chair of the International Agreements Committee, put forward the debate.

- Lord Kerr of Kinlochard (Crossbench), former UK Permanent Representative to the EU and Head of the Diplomatic Service
- Baroness Sugg (Conservative), former Foreign Office Minister
- Lord Oates (Liberal Democrat), member of the Association of European Parliamentarians with Africa governing council
- Lord Boateng (Labour), former UK High Commissioner to South Africa.
Former Head of the Diplomatic Service Lord McDonald of Salford (Crossbench) made his maiden speech, a new member's first speech in the chamber.
Lord Grimstone of Boscobel, Minister for Investment, responded on behalf of the government.
