What's on in the Lords: 8-12 February

From Monday 8 to Thursday 11 February in the House of Lords chamber: members challenge the government in Lords questions on the approval of genetically modified foods, emergency support funds for freelance performing artists, access to online teaching for schools and more.
In draft law checks, House of Lords continues detailed examination of the Domestic Abuse Bill and the Counter-Terrorism and Sentencing Bill, plus, members consider House of Commons changes to the Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill.
Most members are taking part in House of Lords business remotely. Members taking part in the chamber are socially distanced and following the latest guidelines.

Thursday 11 February
The House of Lords will press government in questions from 12 on access to Child Trust Funds for those with learning disabilities, the backlog of patients requiring dental treatment, children who cannot access online learning, and living conditions for refugees in Napier Barracks.
Members will also quiz government on the Sir Richard Henriques report on Operation Midland, and following updates on Myanmar, COVID-19 vaccine deployment and quarantine.
Later, members consider regulations (secondary legislation) on the Armed Forces Act, Universal Credit and planning permission for new UK border facilities following the UK’s exit from the EU. Read the Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee’s reports on the regulations.

Monday 8 February
From 1pm in Lords Questions, government scrutiny on the risks associated with approving genetically modified food in the UK, and the impact of the conflict in Tigray on the stability in the Horn of Africa. Then, members continued line by line check of the Domestic Abuse Bill in committee stage day five.
Tuesday 9 February
Overseas aid and treatment for osteoporosis were on the agenda in Lords questions. Later, members considered House of Commons amendments to the Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill and continued line by line check of the Counter-Terrorism and Sentencing Bill. Members also questioned government following updates on the EU ban to UK shellfish exports and the reported coup in Myanmar.
Wednesday 10 February
House of Lords members questioned government on self-isolation, inheritance tax exemptions, emergency financial support for freelance performing artists and support for the UK shellfish industry. Urgent questions on the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and Yemen followed.
Later, members continued detailed scrutiny of the Domestic Abuse Bill at day six of committee stage and scrutinised new regulations away from the chamber in Grand Committee.
