Coming up in the Commons: 25-29 January 2021

We’ve put together a list of highlights to keep you on top of the legislation, debates and questions coming up this week that you need to know about.

Monday

The House will sit from 2.30pm on Monday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Thérèse Coffey MP.

The main business will start with Opposition day debates on:

  • Council Tax
  • Employment rights.

Tuesday

MPs will meet from 11.30am on Tuesday. Chamber proceedings will start with questions to Rishi Sunak MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer. 

There will be two urgent questions:

  • Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Thomas-Symonds MP - Covid protections at the UK Border
  • Shadow Education Secretary, Kate Green MP - the government’s plan for the reopening of educational settings.

Mrs Helen Grant MP will present a Ten Minute Rule Bill on Football (Regulation). 

Main business will start with remaining stages (day 1) of the Environment Bill.

Wednesday

Proceedings will begin from 11.30am on Wednesday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Scotland, Alister Jack MP.

Prime Ministers Questions will take place at 12 noon.

Roger Gale MP will ask an urgrent question to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on what further sanctions will be imposed upon the Russian Federation following the arrest of Alexei Navalny, his wife and hundreds of his supporters.

Followed by two statements:

  • Prime Minister, Boris Johnson MP on Covid-19 (update)
  • Home Secretary, Priti Patel MP, on health measures at the border.

Owen Thompson MP will then present a Ten Minute Rule Bill on Ministerial Interests (Emergency Powers).

Main business will begin with consideration of Lords' amendments to the Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill.

This will be followed by Lords' amendments to the Medicines and Medical Devices Bill

Thursday

The House will sit from 9.30am on Thursday, starting with questions to Grant Shapps MP, Transport Secretary. 

Main business will start with Backbench Business debates on:

  • Holocaust Memorial Day 2021
  • UN International Day of Education. 

Friday

The House will not sit on Friday.
