House of Lords debates coronavirus restrictions
7 January 2021
The House of Lords will debate regulations relating to coronavirus restrictions in England on Thursday 7 January.
Lockdown rules
Members will consider the latest lockdown rules for England. The regulations strengthen the Tier 4 restrictions and apply them to every area in England. In addition, the expiry date for the regulations is extended.
Members will also debate regulations changing the self-isolation period and tiers.
Approval of the Lords
The regulations are subject to an affirmative approval motion: both Houses must debate and approve them.
Debate
Over 40 members will speak - most remotely - including a former Health Secretary and a former President of the Royal Society for Medicine.
The debate is expected to last for three hours. Watch live on Parliament TV from 2.30pm. A House of Lords Hansard transcript is available from three hours after the debate.
